Piece of the Week

It's time again for piece of the week. This week a blast from the past. This is from the first series I worked on after my final show in college, the series was called Rose Windows and was inspired by rose windows in cathedrals but then focusing more on geometry and patterns and mixing in some Middle Eastern/Islamic designs. This took a fair amount of doing, I love complex designs but they are complex and rather tricky to execute. I think I was copying a design I saw in a book by Keith Critchlow.

Photos of your work

So I just got professional images of some of my pieces and they're awesome! I've taken pictures of my work and they range from awful to okay, with major improvement since I learned how to crop images. My pictures of my work could perhaps be even better with learning more about photography and/or editing but I think even with all that, my pictures really can't compare with those taken by a professional who specializes in photographing art. I learned about such a photographer while in school and I would love to be able to afford to have him take pictures of all my work for me. To illustrate my point, here's two pictures of the same image, my image I thought was a pretty good one, never the less I'm sure you can easily tell which one I did and which one was professional.

Piece of the Week

Hello again and welcome to this week's Piece of the Week. This week's piece is another one from the new series that I'm working on right now. I'm very happy with the way that this piece turned out.

Piece of the Week

This week is a two-fer. Two drawings of geometric patterns. The image quality isn't very good. I didn't realize in school that a photography class or two would really do me some good.

This one is a study of an Islamic design.
I love geometric and Islamic designs, their beauty is both simple and complex.

Piece of the Week

This piece is from a series I worked on last year called The Importance of Bees. The series was focused on honey bees and the role they play in symbolism and folk lore. This piece features the Thriae, bee women from Greek mythology who were protectors of Zeus as a child I believe, but I'd have to go back and check my research and notes to be certian. PS the borders aren't really crooked, that's just how it worked out with my poor skills as a photographer and editor.
